What are the booms for on large longliner fishing boats, such as the Andrea Gail? Is it for stabilization? I know that some fishing boats use the booms for nets, but what about the others?
Does anyone know of a UK retailer for inflatable pontoon fishing boats? I've seen a lot of these dual-hulled inflatable pontoon boats used in America for fly fishing and i'm interested in getting one for my father's birthday. They're also know as catarafts i think or as a variation of float tubes. They have two inflatable bladders with a seat suspended between and a bar to rest your feet on and they make great inflatable fishing boats. I can see plenty for sale in the US but none in the UK. Are there any businesses out there shipping these to the UK?
How can glowsticks be used for fishing or boating? I saw them for sell on basspro shops website under marine accessories and I'm just curious, cause I do a lot of fishing and it's always nice to have another trick up my sleeve on the river. I'm looking for a used fishing boat in MN. Help plz.? I'm interested in being able to take it on small local lakes, as well as trailer it up to big lakes like Rainy. I'm thinking a 16ft Lund w/ motor& trailer for around $2000. I want to be able to throw the wife, kid, and gear in and go for 4 night camping trips. 1. How much horsepower do I need to be able to plane-out with that load?...the flip side is I don't want too much horsepower because of fuel prices. 2. What are some of the pitfalls to watch out for with the boat/motor/trolling motor/trailer? 3. Are there some quick checks I can do to verify the engine age and reliability, boat leaks, trailer condition, etc.? I assume I would need to take it out on the water prior to purchase? Aluminium vs Fiberglass small fishing boats? Which is better for off-the-grid camping and fishing? I've been looking around for a small, 12-16' fishing boat to use for camping far up north. I've heard fiberglass breaks easily if we accidentally hit rocks or ground it onto a beach. Do they? Or should I shell out more for an aluminium boat? I'm trying to minimize maintenance as well so I can enjoy more time on the water.

Can I use a Car battery for my small fishing boat? I have a small 12 foot alum fishing boat with a small sonar and a 38# thrust trolling motor. I also have a 1yr old car battery (from a totalled car) available for use. I know the car battery isn't a marine battery and that there's a reason to use marine over auto batteries for boats, but I won't hurt anything by using the car battery in the boat, will I? (Other than shortening the eventual life of the car battery.)

What type of reel to use when fishing Kings in the Kenai river? I am fishing the Kenai river this summer (end of June), just wondering what reel would be best suited to do this. I plan on wading in the river, no boat fishing (maybe a little bank fishing on some deep spots). I am getting an ugly stick 8.5' rod, but for a reel I am still up in the air. I have a Shimano Torium 20, would that work for this type of fishing? How would I attach a seat/bench to an old fiberglass hulled fishing boat? I have an old Edson 16 ft. fiberglass boat which has been converted to a fishing boat with 2 captain's chairs. I want to add a bench seat to the boat to be able to take the kids out fishing too but am not sure how to attach the wood framed bench (which I am planning on making) to the fiberglass floor of the boat. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, etc. I would assume that I could attach a wood framed bench to the floor using fiberglass/resin but I don't know how to do that. Is there an easier way?

How can I find someone to work at my waterfront seasonal campground in exchange for a seasonal campsite? Additional info: After initial barter of seasonal campsite for help with campground, I will consider offering the right person/couple a profit sharing arrangement for future seasons. Waterfront campground is on Southern Lake Champlain, near the famous Lake George resort area. Planed upgrades include electrical work to convert former Trailer sites elec to elec only campsites, replace docks, barter with builders/handymen to build/use waterfront fishing cottages. Considering forming a boating & fishing club for members to build/buy/maintain docks, and in the future I could possibly reimburse the club for the materials. (should help build local support) I am starting to work on business plan, and looking for business advisors to insure the long term prospects. I "inherited" a surf rod for fishing from my grandfather, what do i do? I got it when he passed away and it's about 8-10 feet long and the line is thicker than normal and my grandmother told me he used it for surf fishing, but i really don't know anything about and it in interested me, and i am going to the beach in a few days and I wanted to know if I could use it while there w/o having to use a boat sorry for not having a picture but here's what i can remember of it looking like It's open reel about 8-10 feet long the handle/hilt of it is about 1-1.5 feet long I really don't know what to do with it, let alone how to surf fish if anyone can help or knows of a good site that cna give me hints/tips or any kind of help, I would be grateful it's a almsot new one, not one of the old kind pretty pristeen(sp)[good] condition
Is it feasable to take a motor off my fishing boat and put it on a pontoon? My old cajun bass boat it in pretty bad shape but the motor (a 90 HP Johnson) runs like a top. At least it did when I last cranked it two years ago. I used to own a lot on a private 800 acre lake but sold it. Now, I want to explore the local public waters but my 16 foot boat doesn't take waves very well. There is a 33,000 acre lake near my house that gets quite rough in those unexpected summer storms. Anyway, is there any advantage to selling my old boat but not the motor then finding a pontoon boat with no motor and putting mine on it?
What used truck/suv would be ideal for towing a boat? I just purchased my first boat. It is a 17ft Sea Nymph fishing boat. The boat and motor weight about 1200 to 1300 lbs. Inexpensive deep sea fishing charters (not party boats) in Texas, Mexico, etc? I really want to go deep sea fishing. I want to go trolling for mahi mahi, sailfish, marlin, etc. I don't want to bottom fish for snapper or shark. Everything I have seen in south Texas is $1000 or more for deep sea charters. When I was a kid, we used to go to Mexico and deep sea fish, but I don' t know how much it cost. I'd love to hear from people with actual experience with deep sea charters.

New to Houston area. Could use some info on fishing and boating.? I am just about to purchase a 20' center console type fishing boat. Not quite sure which one yet but leaning towards a Century. I have experience fishing for reds, trout, flounder, snook, etc. down in Florida and want some of the same type of fishing here. zodiac, aluminum, or fiberglass fishing/pleasure use 12-16 foot boat? im getting a boat for fishing and just to drive around for fun, for teh engine im going to get a 40 pount thrust electric motor and for casual use ill get a 40 - 50 horse power gas motor. But should i go got a zodiac, aluminium or fiberglass, im not to sure about fiberglass and i kind of want aluminum because they are indrustractable but i also go crabbing and want to take my boat into the ocean so i want something like a zodiac so i wont tip does anyone know what i should go for

Buying a used boat? I am very interested in getting a small 12-15' boat to do some fishing in this summer. I really don't want to spend a ton of money (less than $2500), but want to know what i should be asking and looking for when i start looking at boats. first time used boat buyer - Please help!? I am looking to buy my 1st boat. Used them a lot and had one when i was younger, but never owned. My problem is that i know nothing about the mechanics of boats. I'd be using it primarily off the coast of maine to fish, not going too far off coast, would like to comfortably seat 6. I saw a few that i liked've on craigslist but i'm scared of anything that isn't an outboard. just seems like more mechanics and more things that could go wrong, especially in my price range. I'm looking to spend no more than 3000. since it's my 1st boat, i'd like to buy something inexpensive and see how it goes for the first year. I've heard mention of renting, but there is no place to rent up there and I wouldn't want to do that anyways. What should i be looking for? Is my price range realistic? Any good websites about mechanics/repair? dealer or private seller? what questions should i be asking? Is an inboard more work/maintenance? Can i get something decent for <$3000 from a dealer?
Bot a used trailer, galvy, owner said it was all set, bolts on wheels are rusty- should I replace- maint? first time boat owner. getting the motor tuned up. it is a used 25 hp evinrude. Want to trailer the boat a few hours away when camping this summer, don't want it to fall apart on the highway. Concerned that the nuts holding onthe wheel are all rusted. Should I replace with brass or stainless? or leave well enough alone? Is there a site I can go to for what to do, what to look for maintenance wise on trailers. It is a bunk trailer for a 16 ft aluminum fishing boat.- nothing fancy. appreciate the help !
