What is a good saltwater rod for offshore fishing in Dana Point California? What is a good saltwater rod to setup with a baitcasting reel. I plan on doing some charter boat fishing. I want a rod thats affordable but thick and strong and sturdy. Id like the closest thing to an all purpose saltwater rod that can handle calico bass to yellowfin tuna, live baitin and iron jigging. Able to hold heavy 12 plus oz. lures for deep waters. I think you get the picture by now. Any recommendations will help.

Scrapes down the center of a Hull a common thing? Looking at buying my 1st boat for offshore fishing which has scrapes down the center bottom of the deep-vee hull. It's a 1998 Bayliner Trophy that's been used in saltwater. Scrapes have been covered by some type of gelcoat repair substrate/paint. My assumption is that it's probably normal wear and tear and not anything that I should worry about. I'm probably bound to run into shallow water sand and small rocks at some point in time. By visual inspection It does not look like it's hit anything at high speed that may have crushed or cracked the hull and i think these hulls are quite thick.
What bait casting fishing reel to use (Round or Low Profile) for Inshore Pier Fishing.? Hi, I'm planing to buy a new Bait-casting reel but I'm not sure what to buy Round or Low Profile. I'm planing to use this for Inshore Pier fresh water fishing or maybe on a fishing boat for Salmon fishing too. I want something I can put my rod in a rod holder that is attached to the Piers or boat railings. I saw couple of Anglers in our area 'Pier' and they are using Rounded ones. If I'm going to get a Rounded ones can use this also for offshore fishing too? I just want to make my money's worth by buying just one good reel that can do both. What reel would recommend base on your choice above whether Round or Low Profile if you have a budget of $200. I heard a lot of good things for Low Profile reels but I'm not sure if it can handle Big Salmons. Thanks galit_sa_chat
why do so many people these days feel entitled to ruin fishing forever? i've fished florida, texas, georgia and offshore for nearly 20 years and i can tell you for a fact that the fish 20 years ago were about 3 times more plentiful than today. people simply dont care about fishing and boating regulations anymore, why is this? keeping way over the limit, keeping out of season and too small/too large fish that they feel they just "couldn't pass up". it's extremely selfish and they are ruining fishing for our children forever. these idiots just cant get it in their heads that their destructive decisions truly count, or they just dont care because they're so childish they think "its not going to severely hurt my generation so who cares". look up percentages, this isn't just some hippie slander, this is a very serious matter, especially to the anglers who SHOULD BE upholding this wonderful tradition with good conservation techniques, instead, even if they let the fish go they rough it up like its a ragdoll and it probably wont live, where did the respect go? see this is what i mean, nobody gives a %^ about this! keep on doing what you're down, have fun now, go ahead and have an extra fish for the fryer that's 3 inches too small, or eat a pregnant sponge blue crab, but dont complain when they are all GONE
how do u fish offshore? ok i always went fishing on shore, and caught alot, not big things but about a foot, but now i got a boat, and im using the same techniques, is their different techniques u need to use offshore? can some1 tell me please?
Would you "trade" a fishing trip with a stranger? At www.floridasportsman.com it is a common occurance for fishermen who frequent "The Forum" to "trade" fishing trips in offshore/inshore environments. Would you trade a trip with a stranger you met online? OR Would it freak you out and make you concerned they were "casing" your boat & stealing fishing spots?

what's the difference in canal - river or sea boats? Can anyone tell me what the difference is between canal / river/ and sea boats? I am looking for a cheap boat that can take me out about 2 miles offshore at Blackpool to do some fishing, will a 14 foot boat with a 15hp 4 stroke motor be big enough to cope with the tides? How can you tell what sort of boat you need? the tide at Blackpool I have been told runs a 8 knotts, cheap price is a big issue, not able to spend more than £1000, I know I am not going to get the QE2 for this price, but I don't want the Titanic either
Can you prove to me the world is round? Went fishing on my boat last weekend and saw what looked like the end of the earth, about 70 miles offshore. Help? Great answers from all. But Doctor J, 70 miles is not enouph to obscure objects depending on the elevation at which you are from sea level. The curvature of the earth is totally dependant on how high you are standing? Not proof.
What is the best BOAT beer? My wife is helping outfit a charter fishing party for work, and she ran into an interesting question...what is the best beer for an offshore fishing trip? Seems like the right beer must be in a can, should be able to drink all day, good on a queazy stomach, does NOT need fruit (due to the can), should be somewhat sophisticated (it is a 20k trip), obviously...tastes great... I could only really think of Amstel...which is lame.
Any thoughts on Mako's Walk Around Cabin Models? I am looking for a well built used fishing boat that is not overpriced because of a name. Mako seems to fit that bill. Looking to hear about ride quality offshore, does the hull design keep you dry, is it a well built boat, etc.
Could this description of a volcano also be used to describe Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears? Anak Krakatau Urupts in a Powerful Boom of Gasses, Rocks and Lava The Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatau) volcano sends up powerful clouds of hot gasses, rocks, and lava as a fishing boat is moored offshore in the Sunda Straits between Java and Sumatra, Indonesia. Sending a boom echoing across the bay, the volcano known as the ‘Krakatau's Child’ unleashes another eruption, but while impressive, the eruption was nothing compared to what took place in 1883 at this spot, when Anak Krakatau's predecessor blew apart in one of the most devastating eruption in recorded history. What is the author's bias/perspective on this article? Israel lifted its sea blockade of Lebanon on Friday, releasing its last major chokehold on the country since war broke out in July. Fishing boats, their crews hoping to salvage what was left of the season before winter set in, chugged out to sea while water skiers and wind surfers skimmed the waves without worry for the first time in nearly two months. More important for the Lebanese economy, ships loaded with cars, food and oil steamed toward Beirut. Trade routes to the country were cut in mid-July during the opening days of the war, and Israel had maintained the blockade even after a cease-fire was declared in mid-August. The embargo has cost the country hundreds of millions of dollars in lost trade. Israel said it had turned over responsibility for patrolling the Lebanese coast to Italian warships, which would help the Lebanese Navy enforce a United Nations-mandated arms embargo against Hezbollah. ''The naval blockade has ended,'' said David Baker, an official in the office of the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert. ''The international forces have taken their positions.'' Many experts here believe that Hezbollah still has plenty of weapons, and they doubt that it would try to import more arms now in any case. Few Lebanese, meanwhile, believe the multinational naval presence can do much to stop any banned shipments that do come. Hezbollah's already strong political influence in Lebanon has grown in the wake of the war. Under the United Nations-brokered agreement that ended the blockade, the interim naval force is to remain six nautical miles from the coast and carry out searches of vessels only at the request of the Lebanese Navy. The multinational naval force is not authorized to act on its own. The blockade was to have been lifted Thursday, but the action was delayed by confusion over who was to lead the naval force until German ships arrive to take over the task. France, which has had two ships in place since the conflict began, was initially expected to take the lead, but that role was shifted to the Italians, who have four ships offshore. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon said it had already established a naval operations center to coordinate all operational details. ''The blockade has seriously undermined the Lebanese economy, and it is high time for it to end so as to allow the people to get back to their businesses,'' read a statement issued by Maj. Gen. Alain Pellegrini, chief of the United Nations force. The number of troops committed to the force continued to rise, with Italy saying that it would soon deploy more troops to southern Lebanon. The first of 900 French troops are expected to begin arriving there Saturday, and 500 Lebanon-bound troops left Spain by ship on Friday. Italy's foreign minister, Massimo D'Alema, said in Tel Aviv that the number of peacekeepers in southern Lebanon could reach 5,000 by the end of next week. ''It will be possible to have an agreement on the withdrawal of Israeli troops in the next 10 days,'' he told reporters. A spokesman for the United Nations force said that peacekeepers from Guyana, part of the earlier United Nations presence, had begun patrolling in the central and western sectors of southern Lebanon, while Indian peacekeepers were patrolling in the southeast. He said the force had turned over three sectors north of Naqura to the Lebanese Army. Agence France-Presse reported that troops from Lebanon's Sixth Brigade, supported by tanks, entered 10 villages in the region on Friday. Israel sent thousands of troops into southern Lebanon during the war, and they have been steadily withdrawing, though some remain in the border area. Israeli troops detained four armed men on Friday in a southern Lebanese village controlled by Israel, Reuters reported, citing an Israeli Army spokeswoman. But the Israeli news media reported Friday that military officials hope to complete the withdrawal before the Jewish New Year, which begins Sept. 22. In another development, Mr. Olmert said that if Lebanon fulfilled its obligations under the United Nations resolution that ended the fighting, then Israel would be willing to discuss Shabaa Farms, a disputed piece of land near where the borders of Syria, Lebanon and Israel converge. Israel captured Shabaa Farms from Syria as part of the Golan Heights in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. However, Lebanon now claims the 10-square-mile swath of land, which overlooks Israel's Hula Valley. When Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000, the United Nations, which marked the border with Israel, did not put Shabaa Farms in Lebanon. The land has been a point of contention since then, and is often mentioned by Hezbollah as a continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory. Resistance to Israeli occupation is the principal reason Hezbollah gives for keeping its arms. Mr. Olmert's remarks, made Thursday night at a meeting with the visiting Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, suggested that Hezbollah would have to disarm before any negotiations took place. Israel failed to make Hezbollah do that by force in the recent fighting, however, and there is currently no political power inside Lebanon strong enough to compel the group to give up its weapons.

how can i rephrase this paragraph without making it so obvious? One morning in spring 1942, U-boats from the German Navy attack tankers bringing oil from Lake Maracaibo in nearby Venezuela to Curaçao and its refineries. Life on the island, which had been somewhat idyllic despite the war, begins to change as the U-boat remains offshore and no shipping will come without a naval escort, which the U.S. cannot yet provide. Eleven-year-old Phillip Enright's parents are divided whether to stay on the island or not. His father, an expert in producing aviation gasoline, works at the refinery for Royal Dutch Shell and cannot leave. However, his mother wants to return to her native Virginia. After the spectacular sinking of a British tanker, his parents decided that Phillip and his mother will leave. Phillip would prefer to stay but has no choice. They risk a passage on a Dutch freighter bound first for Panama and then Miami, even though Phillip's father advises them to fly, Philip's Mother declines because she is scared of flying. Off the coast of Panama, the freighter is torpedoed, and Phillip is knocked unconscious and separated from his mother by the ship's boom while trying to escape. He wakes up four hours later to find he has been rescued by an old black sailor named Timothy and is sharing a raft with him and Stew Cat, who had belonged to the ship's cook. Timothy builds a shelter on the raft by using of their clothing and catches flying fish to eat. Since Phillip's mother is prejudiced against black people, and has passed some of those attitudes on to her son, Phillip is wary of Timothy despite his kindness and resents that Timothy treats him like a small child. After several days, Phillip's head injury causes him to go blind, forcing him to rely on Timothy for his own survival. They eventually find land, an uncharted cay in the dangerous reef area called Devil's Mouth, where they live for many months. During the stay on the cay, Phillip comes to realize that his prejudice against black people is wrong, and he becomes friends with Timothy. Timothy becomes sick with malaria, and the pair must deal with a hurricane that passes across the island. The storm had torn apart the eighty year old Timothy and slowly but surely Timothy died. However a couple weeks later Phillip is rescued by a boat. Phillip has surgery to his head and when the bandages come off he can see again.
Merc 150 Submerged Outboard Motor In Saltwater Sunk Boat? I let some friends borrow my boat and they basically sunk it 20 miles offshore. When it got back on dry land (motor submerged) I immediately pulled the plugs blew out the water, rinsed with fresh water, coated with wd-40 and it started up shortly there after. I took it out 3 times after with absolutely no problems. The sinking is still a mystery and a story for another day (I'm thinking they forgot to put the plugs in the boat and when they got fish and stopped the boat, down she went, but I digress) It is a 20' center console and it had water thigh high at the helm. This in turn means both batteries were under and who knows what else. I unfortunately have not been able to see the boat since October (8 months) and am wondering if much more damage could have happened since? It has been sitting on the trailer the whole time. What can I expect when I go back to the boat? I'm sure batteries are toast and but am wondering if everything else may still be in working order? Thanks.
IRAQ. You still think it's NOT about the oil? Think again? April 10, 2007 Middle East News The line of ships at the Al Basra Oil Terminal (ABOT) stretches south to the horizon, patiently waiting in the searing heat of the Northern Arabian Gulf as four giant supertankers load up. Close by, two more tankers fill up at the smaller Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminal (KAAOT). Guarding both terminals are dozens of heavily-armed U.S. Navy troops and Iraqi Marines who live on the platforms. These two offshore terminals, a maze of pipes and precarious metal walkways, deliver some 1.6 million barrels of crude oil, at least 85 percent of Iraq's output, to buyers from all over the world. If the southern oil fields are the heart of Iraq's economy, its main arteries are three 40-plus inch pipelines that stretch some 52 miles from Iraq's wells to the ports. Heavily armed soldiers spend their days at the oil terminals scanning the horizon looking for suicide bombers and stray fishing dhows (boats). Meanwhile, right under their noses, smugglers are suspected to be diverting an estimated billions of dollars worth of crude onto tankers because the oil metering system that is supposed monitor how much crude flows into and out of ABOT and KAAOT - has not worked since the March 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. Officials blame the four-year delay in repairing the relatively simple system on "security problems." Others point to the failed efforts of the two U.S. companies hired to repair the southern oil fields, fix the two terminals, and the meters: Halliburton of Houston, Texas, and Parsons of Pasadena, California. I know more than you think. I definitely know that the oil contracts have yet to be signed by westerners. But we shall watch that shan't we. You can't intimidate me.
Ever been on an island by yourself? I used to live in Tampa, FL and once I took a small boat out fishing and there was a small island about 20 miles offshore. I went there and explored it was so kewl. Ever been on a small island?
Is Will Smith an idiot? In "I Am Legend" why didnt he just get a big boat with solar panels, a water purifier and a fishing rod and live 10 miles offshore. when he needed stuff he just docks during the day or uses his lab and then returns to the sea instead of living in fear for so long. He still could do everything that he did just he'd be safe. What is wrong with this logic????????? people if i said is will smiths character is an idiot nobody would answer The other thing is how come i haven't seen anything about this virus on the news. im starting to thnk its not real. i saw people in NY just the other day.
