- A fly, isn't capable of fishing, but there is a lot of people that fly fish in saltwater you can turn the reel upside down, but why would you want to do it, because it would make casting & retreiving the line, rather difficdult, as well if you were to hook a fish, the rod, would interfear with free line movement
- yes you can fly fish in saltwater. most reels will convert easily from right to left handed retrieve, some may require tools. other reels are strictly right or left handed so be careful what you buy.
- 1) Yes you can. I just am starting to do that ;) You have to have an 8-12 wt. rod, depending on what type of saltwater your wanting to tackle. And you have to have saltwater flies, which is made out of other type of material. 2) No one is saying you can't. But I wouldn't suggest it. You will have to reel backwards, if you turn it upside down. Just special order a lefthanded reel. It doesn't cost any extra money. But some reels can be switched, but usually that is the more expensive ones ;) Hope that helped! Have fun and stay fishin'! -Fishingidiot-
- Just put the reel the other way on your rod. Fly reels will work either way since they are just storage devices for your line anyway. And yes, you can fly fish in saltwater. You probably won't ruin your fly reel, as I said it's just a storage device for line.
- OK then lets get this problem solved, For the first part of your question the answer is yes you can, in-fact for quite a few species, i always use a 9wt rod for every thing nothing more even when its tarpon I'm after, types of saltwater fish you Can catch are the obvious ones like bone-fish, tarpon(a favorite of mine)trout etc a good all-round fly to start out with is the clouser minnow, and also the shrimp immatation all availabe here http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat400007&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20431&parentType=category&parentId=cat20431 I also advise ypu fish with a strong leader for the toothy fish out there aswell as better better presentation and distance try RIO leaders http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20431-cat601301&rid=&indexId=cat601301&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=2&parentType=index&parentId=cat601301&id=0036742 Make sure you use a strong tippet on this such as 20lb and up. Now for the fly reel problem, i assume you want to play the fish on the reel? well many fly reels can be converted from left to right depending on the model and make, as a general rule though most large arbor reels for saltwater can be converted to right hand wind. I would not advise turning the rod as it will damage your wrist if you get a hard take and also it applies to much pressure to the blank when your fish should be played through the rod guides, hope this is of help. One last thing work on your casting and have plenty of backing on your reel such as gel spun backing and about 200 yards of it incase you get the big one. If you want a reel for saltwater fly fishing that wont rot or corrode then try these if your on a budget in the 9wt version http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0051122320100a&navCount=6&podId=0051122&parentId=cat20471&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20431-cat20471&catalogCode=UH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20471&hasJS=true
- fly-fishing for Coho Salmon over kelp beds is a blast. the flies are fairly large and mimic bait-fish. i have gotten into large Chinooks as well but i just point the tip at them and let them break the leader because they can break a lighter rod with the flick of a tail. as far as a left handed reel? most manufacturers produce reels for the left handed angler.
- you can fly fish in the saltwater no you cant because when you get one you well have to switch hands and you could loose him good luck
