  1. It depends on where you live. I have bought a few from Bass Proshops and from Cabelas, other than that you could try Dick's Sporting Goods. I have 3 rods from there but no Fly fishing Rods. Good Luck!
  2. I would buy Echo fly rods. They work great and are designed by Tim Rajeff. They are very high performing but don't come with the high end price. Their customer service is great too. I broke one of the tips on one- fishing out in the Pacific ocean and got hook on with a small mako shark on my six weight. Oops. Getting a replacement was fast and easy. My husband was a guide in California for ten years and he used Echo exclusively. They put up with the abuse from clients and newbies great and he never had a problem.
  3. I assume you are talking the manufacturer... if you are and have a credit card with a high limit!!!! G.Loomis. and Sage $$$$$ (They have some cheaper rods too) You really have to pick the type of rod for the type of fishing. If you are just learning try and figure out what weight you need. A cheaper Fenwick or St. Croix is a good choice. Just don't get one made in China... cheap yes... in $ and quality! Go to the local shop with the type of fish you want and the amount of money you want and see what they have. I don't recommend buying a rod without holding it first.... unless you know exactly the model etc. you want and can same come big $$. Good luck
  4. Ah a fly rod question brilliant well you have many choices, but it depends on how much you wish to spend on one, i would advise if your only a novice go for a cheap fly rod because of the fact it will take allot of punishment, and you may well want to quit fly fishing all of this aside though i would recommend sage although these are fast action fly rods with a nice price tag i am lucky enough to own a few sage rods and you do feel the difference for $600 so i would recommend them or if your more of a beginner go for redington as for where to buy them go for bass pro as they have a larger selection than cabelas sage http://www.sageflyfish.com/ redington http://www.redington.com/ For a in between rod give orvis a shot or have a look at these It will take some searching for to look for a quality fly rod for that much as i often pay over $400 for a top quality rod and believe me you can feel the difference almost every time so if that's all you have to spend you have a few options firstly if your a novice there's nothing wrong with a cheap rod or if you don't have that cash but if you intend on fishing with it for years and often go for something a little more expensive as for makes i would give Cortland a try or redington although your best bet will be with redington as below http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... for the price and quality you get give these some serious thought http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... or if this is in your price range then try http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... You will probably know this but for general fishing i would recommend you get a 9 feet to 9,6 and an AFTM of 6/7 generally 7 will suit most types of fishing you will need it for. For streams decrease the number, happy fly fishing. *i mentioned orvis, clear you dont listen to what i have to say lol try the western 2
  5. If you are just starting to learn fly fishing I suggest an inexpensive combo like this. I have ordered lots of tackle from this company and they ship quick and free. http://cgi.ebay.com/Crystal-River-fly-fishing-freshwater-rod-reel-combo_W0QQitemZ280168142777QQihZ018QQcategoryZ33973QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
  6. Am surprised there was no mention of Orvis? They are in the elite category as a few others are. They don't come cheap, but the quality be one of the best! Link will give ya' an idea of what I'm talkin' about when it comes to price and quality;)... If your just startin' out, I'd suggest exert's advice... http://www.orvis.com/store/shop.aspx?pageType=GROUP&dir_id=758&Group_ID=759&shop_id=2040
  7. the best fly rod dealers that i have found, are bass pro shops & cabellas. You can get good fly tackle, without spending a fortune. I an a fly fisherman, in south florida & have 7 fly rods, from 4 wt. to 6 wt, I prefer a 9' rod, but lots of people prefer shorter. my largest bass on fly tackle, was a 9# 4oz., caught on a Fenwick 4wt. 9', using a #10 accardo popper.
