Fishing Q&A

bass fishing in a small pond?

what are some good lures for fishing in a small pond? my friend has his own pond and i have seen some decent sized bass but i havnt had the chance to fish. i was thinking some plastic worms rigged texas style would work or maybe some spinnerbaits by small i mean 1/2-1 acre.

  1. I have a friend with a similar sized pond with large mouth bass. I usually use plastic worms which seem to be pretty effective because I do not think the fish have a good food source.
  2. I'd use the best bait which is real bugs like flies and dragonflies.
  3. oooooooo, lucky you, i love to fish. just use different types of jigs. have fun and catch a huge one.
  4. I've used berkley powertubes, I've used larger white grubs (rubber lures) normally used for walleye (like a 3 inch) and the white grubs are nice because if you reel it in at the right angle and speed, you can see it, and when it dissappears, you got one... you can almost see them nail your bait. with the powertubes, I've used a bobber about three feet up from the bait. Cast, reel it in a little and pause, during the pause is when you've given the bass time to strike. be patient and don't necessarily go for the deepest part of the pond. sometimes three to four feet deep is enough. Live minnow have worked for me too. the reason not to use a small lure is that large bluegull might also strike, and they fight but you want to go for bass, use something large enough so you aren't fighting with bluegill...
  5. REAL WORMS
  6. start with some easy lures that you could just crank through the water. start with a bettle spin and try that out. if it works out well step it up to a good crank bait maybe a 3" broke back rebel crank bait. or a good buzz bait. if you feel comfortable with that step it up to a worm i like the carolina rig. if there is alot of top cover on the water..lilypad, moss, ect.. go with a frog. maybe that will help you out. good luck and good fishin
  7. Start with small jigs or rapala's. The other two baits you mention may work, but since its a small body of water, a spinnerbait may be too loud and spook the fish. Use a stealthy approach on tiny water.....
  8. i have the same type of pond next to my house that i fish at everyday. ive tried platic worms, lures, spinnerbaits, and live bait. ive caught most of my fish on worms but you catch a whole variety of fish this way. if you really want to catch the bass get yourself a RAPALA original floater in sliver . it immitates a baitfish and i promise you it wont fail. it is the only lure that works in my pond. i swear by the rapala.
  9. ya some worms would proabably work pretty good
  10. dicks has cheap open-faces
