- yes. you don't want to go out and get pro. stuff yet do you?
- i can't understand fly fishing,i mean you would have to catch hundreds of them for a feed.
- Give Cabelas.com a try they have great rods for beginners at reasonable prices thats where I got mine. I got the traditional combo. When I bought it it came with rod tube, rod, reel, backing and line everything you need to get started... well exept flies :) Now they don't carry the traditional but they have the traditional 2 which is much better and cheaper!
- there is plenty of combo deals on, and the one your on about is mid range, its a great sport enjoy your self,
- first flyrod, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT spend more than 50 to 75 dollars on it, it should me a combo, make sure it has a dran on the reel, make sure the weight of the rod matches the fish you plan on catching, 3 or 4 wt, pan fish, bass, small trout. 5 to 7 wt. fish that weigh 3 to 10 pounds, depending on the water you are going to fis, you did no say what you were going to fish for, so if you are fishing a river with fast water, you will need a stiffer rod, if it is a stream or lake, you can get a light rod with some action. if it is salt water you are fishing, wich it is possible with that rod combo, I did use that exact rod to catch snook and jack with, do not use less than a 7/8 wt. Make sure the combo you buy will come with line backing and the line. hopefully they will even through in some flies. If you like flyfishing and you get really into it, invest in quality gear in a year or so, I went from a shkespear combo. wich I still have, to spendin 1000 dollars on a rod and reel combo, it gets addictive, and expensive, but well worth it. also invest in books and videos, ecspecially a book on knots that you will need to learn, and maybe a video or two on technique. Just remember only a select few can say they are a fly fisherman, keep practicing, and remeber to have fun, and keep an eye on what is behind you, fly line and flies like trees. hpe this helped.
- I don't see why not, if you're just starting out then you don't need to spend too much. Some more information on fly fishing here For tippet material you have a large choice because first there are leaders then there are tippets for general fishing tippet i use fluorocarbon as its invisible in all water and suitable for saltwater too, for makes i always go for airflo sight free g3 which i generally buy from cabelas, second are leaders these are tapered towards the tip and help yo achieve a better turnover (cast and presentation) these i don't often use but when i do i use Cortland fine trout leaders in clear, these are good for a beginner such as your self as teh dont often need changeing and help you cast further than before with a neat presentation what i will say is dont use flourocarbon for dry flies as it will make them sink, you can use it so long as you put a floatant on your dry such as gherkes gink, or loon, i buy lots of my gear from cabelas and bass pro firstly airflo tippet http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... Leaders and cabelas own make is fine for this http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... loon floatant http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... gink floatant (better than loon) http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... Dry flies that should work i your area http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa... * when you use a tippet for freshwater i generally go for about 5lb but as a beginner you can use up to 10lb with airflo g3 and still catch. - If this combo is all your budget will allow, then go ahead, but I would recommend other combos out there- 1. Scientific Anglers sells several combos- all of the components are of a much much higher quality than the shakespeare kit. Which means you won't need to upgrade as soon, or really ever if you are happy with it. I've seen these kits as low as 60 bucks at walmart. 2. Cortland sells some great quality kits, expect to pay 70-90 for those. there are others- like I said if you budget allows, then go with the scientific angler kit. Another very nice feature of this kit is it comes with a DVD to teach you flycasting and flyfishing basics- which will come in handy if yu don't have anyone else to teach you. Good luck, and come back and ask questions here often- there are a lot of good advice givers and we are here to help.
