Fishing Q&A

boat speakers?

i live in florida and do a lot of salt water fishing and boating. so i need speakers that will be able to withstand the saltwater environment. the problem i have is that my center console is not sealed and i have no way to seal it. i want to get regular marine speakers to install in the center console but i hear that they need a enclosed environment to sound good. what should i do? also these are the speakers i want. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2653_MB+Quart+NKA+116.html

  1. Marine speakers are not that much different to motorcycle speakers, other than for size. Most motorcycle speakers only go up to about 5" due to the limited space on a bike. However, soon as you say "marine", the price goes up. We are the worlds largest dealer/distributor for J&M products and hence can retail their line at a discount. Their speakers for the Honda 1500 and 1800 Goldwings (even due to the about 1" smaller size) have a higher power rating and db rating, carry a lifetime warranty and don't cost that much more for a pair to the single unit price you have. They too are water-proof polypropoline (cores) with corrosion (frames) resisting construction. Our techs can also advise re rear enclosures for your open aplication. 2. All of the boats that I have worked on seem to have Bose speakers. http://www.bizrate.com/boatskayaks_boatingequipment/products__keyword--boat+speakers__lp--1__sfsk--2.html
  3. for a middle of the road budget Pioneer and JBL seem to make good ones
