Fishing Q&A

Does anyone have any tips for fishing North Park, PA in October?

Like how to catch fish there. I've never been fishing there, so I don't know. How do you catch them? And can I use my fly rod there? Thanks!

  1. Well, I have never been there but if it's anything like here in the upper Midwest then it all depends on what your fishing for. Big plastics from morning till early afternoon with a varied retrieve and presentation seem to attract Northern and Muskies. Bottom jigging works well for Walleye's try late afternoon and just after sunset. Trout and Salmon are really unique and best done either with a jigging spoon or motor trolling, however Tube jigs are the best kept secret for trout and salmon. I shoreline fish 1 of the great lakes and have found that a 1-1/2" - 2" pearl or lime green tube jig kills brown trout and steel-head. 17lb brown and 24lb steel-head in the same day. what a blast!! I would say that if your fly fishing use a large slow sinking fly to catch your prey. Good Luck!
  2. Around Erie PA the fall steelhead run is just starting Good baits are: Single eggs on a #14 circle hook Skein or egg sacks with a #14 gold trebble hook. Minnows -live or dead on a #10 red circle hook. Little Cleos -small blue/silver Black Mini Foo with a maggot Power Bait -Pink, Lime, Orange or Rainbow Sherbert on a #14 trebble hook All with at least a 18" florocarbon leader
