Fishing Q&A

Fly fishing reel....?

Can you change the drag on a fly rod? If so how. And there is a button on the left side in the middle of the reel what is it for?

  1. The button on the left side is for dis-engaging the spool from the reel. If there is a knob on the other side of the reel, it is for drag control. Some fly reels are built without a drag control and employ what is known as a click drag. You control the fight of the fish with your hand, "palming" the reel to add drag manually.
  2. a fly rod reel is not a "reel", rather a line holder. To "reel" in a fish you keep pressure with your index finger and pull on the string with your other hand. After fish is landed, then you reel in your line.
  3. you use your hands. look here, great site
