Fishing Q&A

Pennsylvania trips?

Well I am getting a truck in late June or early July, and live in Pittsburgh, Pa. and would like to take a couple weekend trips this summer around northwestern/central Pennsylvania to go fly fishing for trout and other fish. Where are some good places? Thanks Sam--- Welcome back to Pa! And I think I am gonna look at that site. Are you in the east or west?

  1. i live in PA too the best trip would be hersey park!!
  2. allintown,dorney park , YMCA,reding,allentown art museum,ppl,YWCA.sub way.mcdonls,BK
  3. Try totalflyfishing.com I was googling areas around here, but not sure what's what lol, I'm still getting used to this state! I'm from CT, lived here (PA) a couple years now. anyway, check the site out, it seems a bit helpful.
  4. Check out the PA fishing site below. You can scroll down to find the Trout hot spots.: Both natural and stocked. Also check out my site below for Ohio fishing info
  5. I live in pa in northeastern pa theres a good trout stream up the near warren pa and tinesta it called broken straw creek it has some nice trout.
  6. I am of the mindset that to get the best nature experience, you need to get as far away from civilization as is reasonable. In Pennsylvania, that would be Potter County. Northcentral part of the the state, up against New York State. Like two stoplights in the whole county. Home of the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon". Lots of native streams. Simple motels and campgrounds. Your cell phone probably won't work. Go explore, canoe, kayak, fish the whitewater, you will love it!
  7. I live in Tionesta and we have it all. Trout, walleye, musky, smallies and crappies. Oil Creek State Park near Rouseville and Plumer has a year round catch and release area that they stock and it a favorite around here. Oil Creek Outfitters has all your fly fishing needs there. There are a lot of streams along the Allegheny River that are stocked. Water will be low probably that time of year. We fish a lot of the boat ramp and the island here in Tionesta. Warren with Kinzua Dam should be a stop you want to make with Brokenstraw Creek and there's another real good creek near there that has lots of trout. That's an excellent time to fish for smallies on the river along with muskies and northern pike. Mid Town Motel here is the place to stay but there are all kinds of camping areas if you plan on roughing it.
  8. I wouldn't waste my time on the Tionesta it warms too quickly. It's OK in the early season but by the time you're going it will not be that good (for trout) A few places in your area: The Allegheny river below Kinzua dam down to the town of Warren - This is a tail water fishery that holds trout (many large) all year - the water is big and wide. I found that brown woolly boogers and copper johns will take fish all day - alot of rainbows in the faster runs. Hatches at that time: you should see some light cahills and isonychias in the evening. Blue wing olives and caddis flys as well as some some large stoneflys which can be imitated w/ a stimulator pattern The Clarion river has a 8.5 mile stretch of catch and release water from the confluence of the East and West Branch downstream to Elk creek. The Clarion is not an easy river to fish, but it holds some beautiful trout. Most fishing is done w/ streamers/boogers and nymphs. For fishing the Allegheny and the Clarion I would reccomend a 9' 5 or 6 wt rod. As mentioned, Brokenstraw creek would be a nice diversion. You can also visit Centre county and fish some of the limestone streams such as Spring or Spruce Creek. Different type of water than the above. Smaller rod and more delicate presentation are needed here. Blue wing olives, midges and (maybe) tricos during the time you would be going. You may also see some sulphers - smaller sizes (18-20) Closer to home you have Oil creek and the Loyalhanna, but I cannot give you any input on those waters as I have yet to fish them. Tight lines !!
