Fishing Q&A

Hello, I need help. I live in south florida near tampa. I like to fish for bass but don't know what bait ...

... to use and how to use it. My lake isn't very big and not too deep like mabey 4-6 feet. ( Fake bait only thanks).

  1. Anything that looks like the bait fish that the bass are eating in the lake. Go to the local Dick's or Bass pro and ask what people are fishing in the area. I would say a crankbait in whatever color they tell you would be the easiest. Throw it out there and reel it back occasionally stopping to resemble an injured fish. Have fun and good luck.
  2. I would try crankbaits like a rattle trap for instance that works great and was very effective in February during pre-spawn. Right now Bass are coming off beds and some going on beds so it's a trial effort during this transition perios where a majority of your Bass cease to hit. It will pick back up in late May early June when Sunfish go on bed.
  3. use a rapala skitter popper. they work wonders if i go fishing for 1 hour with that i catch atleast 3 bass( just so you know once and awile pickral will hit the bait). the way you fish it is twitch your rod to make a poping sound in the water but when you do this make sure once and awile make sure you stop the lure for about 5-10 second when you stop it that is when you will probably get the strike. Fish it right next to cover like twigs, branches, seaweed ,lilypads ect. i hope this works for you good luck and good fishing
  4. try a large plastic worm(10"-14") for large Florida bass. This will allow a stealthy presentation for shallow water
