what is the best way to crappie fish at night?

- Floating Lights and minnows on cane poles. Try standing timber
- dynamite.
- From shore: A lighted float would work. Boat: find the suspended fish and cast tube jigs, or a small spinner jig....in either case, a headlamp for night fishing is the only way to go; it keeps your hands free and the light is always where you are looking.
- The lights do work well as they will attract a lot of fish, another trick, it's not really a trick but I usually throw out a bunch of bread crumbs also or some crumbled up ritz crackers to chum up the water nice and this will also keep the fish around longer.
- berkely powerbait grubs Johnny
- I use minnows and a lighted bobber
- Crappie are notorious night-time feeders. During the day they may hang suspended in deeper water. AT NIGHT they tend to cruise the inside & outside edges of weedlines. Live bait can work wonders if you know WHERE the school's will be. However, if you DON'T know, a good idea is to "scout" some weedlines with a small 1/8 OZ Spinnerbait, In-line spinner, or Beetle Spin.(You can also use 1/8 OZ twin-tail grub/jig or single-tail grub/jig.) The vibration of the blades, (or grub-tail), help the fish to "zero-in" on your lure. Cast long (emerging) weedlines with your lure. If you catch a couple fish or get some strikes, STOP and use your float & Crappie minnow rig. I have used this technique with excellent results! Hope this helps? Good luck! (PS- Using a submerged light to draw fish is illegal in some states. Check your regulations before using!)
- I dont know if they are legal in your state, but using yoyos is a blast. When you hear that thing go off you paddle over, grab your fish, and rebait the line. If they are biting well, you will stay very busy. I have also caught some nice bass and cats on yoyos.
