What is the stongest fishing knot?
I need to know what the strongest fishing knot is for tying 8 pound test onto a #4 or #6 hook. A how to guide would be nice. Also, what is the best knot to tie 8 pound test onto something along the line of a 16 pound test leader? Meaning line to line knot. Thanks!

- All the knots you should need http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com The palomar knot is the main knot used by most fishermen, all of the the knots on the above site are reliable. *just thought i would make this clear, i use a blood knot and the grinner knot for my flies, its better than the palomar knot, the reason i recommended the palomar was because its simple for a beginner to tie.*
- Palomar be my 1st choice and second be the Clinch knot and or Improved Clinch. Link will show ya' how to tie em', along with other knots for fishin' and it be animated for real easy learnin' ;)... < ' ( (( > < http://animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Note: Line ta' line knot of different sizes would be the Albright or a Double Surgeon's Knot (if I be interpretin' ya' right?). Also, I think ya' may have it a slight backwards meanin' 16 # test would be your main line and the smaller 8 # would be the leader?? Albright Knot: http://animatedknots.com/albright/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Double Surgeon's: http://animatedknots.com/surgeonsjoin/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Added: Yeow, AIRFLOW got me this time ~ He, "Beat me to the punch" ie., got his response before I ;) ;) ;)...
- my favorite knot is the trilene knot
- I can't agree with AIRFLOW on the Palomar knot. I know many anglers, and they use the Palomar sparingly. It's a good knot, but like anything else, it has it's place. Palomar isn't my choice for tieing directly to a hook; however, I will use it when attaching swivels/terminal components to braided line. I prefer the snell or uni knot for tieing to hooks. The reason I don't like the Palomar is that is tied to the eye of the hook, and therefore puts pressure there instead of the stronger part of the hook, the shank. A uni or snell knot will take care of that problem. There are different types of snell knots, some much simpler than others. http://www.animatedknots.com is a good place to start. You might want to visit http://www.bayfisherman.com/knots/snell_knot.htm for another version. For tieing lines together, close in diameter, uni to uni knots work well. However, for tieing dissimilar diameter lines together, I prefer the Albright or Surgeon's Knot...found here: http://www.sportsmanschoice.com/terminal_tackle_knots.htm
- go to northamericanfisherman.com then find knot wars. that will tell you. i like the palymar or the improved sinch knot.
- The Palomar is easy to tie and pretty strong, but the Trilene knot is stronger. All you have to do is take a 2-3 foot piece of line and tie one end to a sinker or something with the Palomar and the other end with the Trilene knot. Then grab a sinker in each hand and pull. The Palomar will break first. (I used the Palomar for years until I tried this; I immediately switched to the Trilene knot. All you guys who recommend the Palomar knot should try this test.) For splicing lines of different sizes, the Albright knot works best.
- You usually don't connect the main line to a heavier leader material. Its supposed to be the opposite. As for the knots, use a uni or improved clinch knot.
- i like the blood not
