- I don't know where you fish or how you get there but when we fished for them we trolled with down riggers and very large white hair jigs. We found ridges running into main lake channel from shallow water with deep on one side and not so deep on the other. We found these with depth finder. We then set the down rigger to run about 3 above feet top of ridge and trolled back a forth over the ridge. When they were active and present a fish or two on every pass is possible. Another way was to fish the birds. Watch for birds diving on water and go there and jig large silver spoons up and down. Good Luck.
- Here where I Iive we use live bait on a Carolina rig with a 2 ounce sinker about 12 to 15 feet down. We alse use Bucktails with a white manns jelly worm and cast on points of follow the birds diving . The red circle hook for live bait has become popular to. They also use trolling boards here to behind the boat. The trolling board keeps all your baits in course and the bait runs very shallow near the banks.
- If you are fishing in the ocean for stripers i have no idea but if you're fishing in lakes there are many lures you can use. Some of the best are Jerkbaits and Crankbaits (just a little bigger than what you would use for bass) Check out tackletour.com , those guys are based in San Francisco area so they catch a lot of stripers and rate the lures they use to catch them with
