fishing....tips?
Okay so I go fishing alot and I never catch anything unless luck comes my way.... Sometimes I fish for bass, some times I fish for crappy or bluegill. Just catching something good in size without needing expensive lures and equipment is fun. I usually keep getting snagged on the bottom of the creek. The creek I fish as is full of bass, crappy, and bluegill...but rarely do I pull anything out or get any bites. Sometimes I would catch a few good 10 -14 inch bass. But that's rarely....I want to bring home the big ones! Any tips on bait and fishing techniques to not get snagged at the bottom of rocks and such? Any tips to using certain types of lures and baits? I try not to use expensive lures because of the snagging. I use 15lb test line and a good size hook, not sure the size but it's a good size to pull in big bass..if I would ever get a chance to hook a big one. Sometimes I would use smaller size hooks and different bait for crappy..no luck with either fish types really.. for bluegills I would use wax worms, and regular night crawler worms. For bass I would use 10 inch long powerbait lures...I've used light and dark colored ones. I've tried a few spinners. I've tried using different types of rubber jiggs. Maybe my sinker and hook set up is wrong?...could that be the cause for snagging and not getting any fish? Could setting the sinkers wrong be a factor? Sometimes I stand on the docks, some times I stand in the bushes area where the land leads out to the deep end of the creek. Sometimes there's shadows, sometimes there's not.

- depending where you fish i try to hit the shadows when using a lure and reel to me.
- For the big bass you want, give live shiners a try. Try a live shiners free lined without the sinker. And when your fishing for bluegill try using a lighter sinker. Sounds like you sinker is too heavy. Try something like a splitshot instead if your using an egg sinker. And you hook may be too big. Also for the bluegill try using a lighter test line than you do for the bass.
- I live on a River with numerous creek inlets and I find that when you go out(like trout fishermen do) turn over some rocks and submerged logs. Look at what is naturally available and Match the Hatch.Usually Bass and large Blue Gill are after Crey Fish and Leaches also small Minnows. Small Floating Rapala's will catch almost anything from Crappie to Large Blue Gill and Bass in creeks. I myself like Ultra Light Gear in small Creeks just for the Sport and to cast very light Lures and Baits.GOOD LUCK and KEEP FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Here is what I recommend. You want to catch big bass without snagging? Go to www.banjominnow.com and order it! its only 19.99 and you get the whole system plus the instructional video. It REALLY works! I fish a lot and this is the best fishing lure I've ever came across. You wont' get snag because you fish it without weights and it also has weed guards so you won't catch any weed or rocks. Its just like a real minnow but the way you fish it, it looks like its a injured minnow. If you don't mind reading, I'll tell my story about it. I've been fishing at skinner for about 2 years. Sometimes I get some fish, sometimes I don't. I use live bait and sometimes the fish won't eat if they're not hungry. Anyway, I remember a couple years back seeing a commercial for the banjo minnow fishing system. So I did research and found the site. So I bought it (it was only 20 bucks) and its great!!!!!!! I went back there and on my 3rd cast, I caught a HUGE 6lb large mouth bass!! throughout the day, people next to me just looks as I pull in fishes left to right. They asked me what I was using and I told them it was the banjo minnow. ANyway, just last week, my wife and my friends went fishing at colorado river. I brought it with me and had much success there as well. Trust me dude, if you want to catch BIG fishes without snagging, this is it! I've only lost one since I got it and it was my friend that lost it. He cast it and instead of landing in water, he got it caught up on a tree =( good luck fishing!
- How fast is the water in the creek? It could be taking your line into rock crevises especially of you leave a lot of slack in your line. try casting into a less of a current, and do not overweight, just enough to keep your line from moving is all you need. Also you might want to try a hook that is caled weedless, this keeps the barb covered until an actual BITE smashed the cover far enough to enter the fishes mouth when you set the hook! Just a few ideas, hope one of them helps!
- i cant see what your really doing wrong but this isnt my favourite neck of the woods when it comes to fishing so try this site it may be able to help you http://www.landbigfish.com/fishingtips/default.cfm
- I heard that there is really good fishing in asia. maybe you should go there
- Okay here me out....go to Wallmart and purchase a 3/8 ounce Rattle Trap. Choose the brown bream gold looking one and a solid Chrome. Rattle your way to victory because right now Bass are feeding to fatten up for the Winter. They are hanging off the shallow point where the deep water runs in search for food. On a cloudy day when it is cool is best all day long. Early morning and late evening on sunny days. If you want to nail that big daddy Bass about 12 lbs on up...get you a Zara spook prefferably chrome and make sure it rattles with BB's inside to attract. Get a boat and if you don't have a boat that's okay, you can fish from the bank. Cast that Zara spook out as far as you can get it and pop it back in slowly. DO THIS BETWEEN 3:am and 6:am in the morning. It will be dark as hell, but I know your not scared to fish in the dark are you? The secret here is that your Mother loads of heavy Bass weighing anywhere from 8lb to 16 lbs...if they are in that lake or pnd they will strike, because they feed early in the morning and then call it a day at Sunrise. I learned this from experience and have the Bass on my wall to prove it.
- use 6-10 # test of good quality line. Use a texas rigged power worm (4-10 inches), depending on the current use 3/16 to 5/8 oz. bullet weight in your rig. try using darker colors (root beer, black, etc.) retrieve slowly and include change of pace (pause for a few seconds, retrieve quicker for a couple seconds). Hook wise, use anything from a size 4 all the way up to a 1 depending on the thickness of your worm; always try to use the smallest hook possible. Make sure your hooks are sharp. I usually buy bronze hooks and just throw them away after a day of fishing. If you want to go catfishing let me know, ill let you in on my homemade catty bait.
- i set up a ultra light spinning reel for blue gill and crappy,i use 2 pound test line a #10 hoOK and a small split shot for weight.and a small cork.for bass try a white spinner bait,15 pound test is ok.i use 14 pound test.spinner baits are pretty much weedless.don't usually get them hung on under growth.and the bass love them.and that's any where i use them ponds rivers or lakes they work every where.my favorite color is white.other colors work but for me it's gotta be white.
- i grew up creek fishing the best & cheapest lure is a med. size beetle spin white w/one red dot lighten you tackle for that one but the bigger 15# STUFF use a tube bait / plastic worm texas rigged /any thing that resembales a crawfish or small minnow all above lures are cheap and your local tackle shop will show you how to use each but there is nothing like time on the water!!!!!! all fish you described like cover such as rocks, eddy's,brush grass ,shade ect... walk slow &liite footed cuase soung travels fast in water & most likley fish will know you are there before you get close to water,so think stealth!!!!&try not 2 cast a shadow on the water!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
- try some smaller gear i stil pull 6 lb bass with 6 lb mono 5" plastics what you use sounds like my saltwater tackle
