Fishing Q&A

I need some fishing tips.?

Well me and my boyfriend about every weekend we go fishing and we always catch these little brim but the bass in the lake seem to not want the worms or the bread i put on the hook. What do you think the best option for catching the bigs ones would be because its kind of a competition between me and him lol im always trying to catch them but neither one of can. by the way. the brim are too big for these bass. these bass are pretty big but i dont think they could eat the little brim. This lake is semi-big but the bass seem to stay near the shore. i can see them and they just sit there and i throw the bait out and they still dont touch it.

  1. use the little brim for bait. just put them on a bigger rig. you will either catch big bass or catfish. you could always buy some shiners. they cost around $1.00 each. but pickerel or gar may take them. we just used the smaller brim like two to three inches long. the bass can get them down, that is what they forage for naturally. Are you sure that you are not seeing carp, or trout? I hardly ever see bass in a lake.
  2. I don't bass fish but I don't think bass fisherman use worms of live bait. Most I see use the spinners and things and they fish pretty close to the bank, they are constantly throwing out and reeling in. I crappie fish and if you ever decide to try it I have a lot of tips that could help you catch the big ones.
  3. try different bates like magets even sweet corn or you could try different depths
  4. When me and my dad used to go, we'd use the fake rubber worms. Try that, it may work. Or try a bass website to help you out.
  5. I don't really fish anymore but one thing I know the best techniques and locations vary. I would scout the lake you fish at and find the fisherman with the "big ones" and ask him. Be aware many fisherman are protective of their "secrets" so make friends first. BTW bread will never work for bass and live bait as long as it's the right size and type will always outfish any artificial lure.
  6. bass always sit on rocky drop offs on points in lakes, jig up and down on the these drops and you always catch bass... and if its a white bass A important tip for river White Bass fisherman is to first locate a hungry, feeding school then lure them out with a jig-head or fly and you may end up with your bag limit of hungry White Bass.
  7. if moving water use spinner baits.if standing water try jigs and plastic worms or crankbaits
  8. In nature big fish usually have litle ones for dinner. Try using small and live fish for bait to catch the musky. Otherwise, look up muskie fishing online at google for other tips. I would try live or realistic looking bait to begin with in trying to catch any.
  9. use an artificial bait..it wont come off like the bread which is probably why all the little ones eat your bait, it falls off easily.
  10. Do you really wanna outfish your boyfriend...could be a strain on the relationship you know? I'll tell ya because the little bad guy on my shoulder won't shut upLOL. Here's how to put a whoopin' on the old man; first use the bread to chum up the bream. Tie on a small hook, the smallest you can find and put a piece of bread on it. No weight, no float. Target out the small bream (the size of a credit card) and cast to them. Once you catch a couple and have 'em in a bucket or something to keep 'em alive, re-rig your line. No weights, no floats, just a simple 1/0-2/0 hook will do fine. Hook the bream right before the first spine near it's head. Make sure you leave the hook point and bend exposed. Clip the tail fin from top to bottom in an angle. This'll make the fish swim funny. Carefully cast it out and let it swim. You'll know when a bass is on it, the bream will swim faster and harder and then BAM...you'll have a bass. Another deal you can try is fake worms in the 6-8 inch range. Green pumpkin works best for me but may not for you so try different colors. To get really explosive hits on the fake worm is to rig it weedless and use no weight. Make a long cast toward structure (lilly pads and what not) and using your wrist, twitch the rod and reel in the slack. The idea is to make the worm dart back and forth under the water and to look like a wounded baitfish. This drives Bass nuts. One more thing is that you may need to down size your fishing line. Try using lighter line, clear monofilament lines are better if spending big bucks for flourocarbon line is not your cup of tea. Remember, long casts, take it easy with the bream when you cast and if you can see the fish, it has seen you before you saw it. This will help you out, try it and let me know.
  11. topwater is the way to go.try a jiterbug or a tiny torpedo. If it`s weedy you`ll need heavyer line 10lb or more.Cast farther than the bass and reel in slow. Good luck to you & your boyfriend , all i can do is ice fish right now. upstate New York.
  12. blood worms and butter the bread. you can also use baked corn kernels. shiny stuff wont hurt it can only help. try dfferent locations and depths. live frogs will also work. remember to jerk the rod so that they hop on the water
  13. Try shiners or wax worms in murky water.
  14. try a rubber worm with a curly tail and no weight cast out past the bass you can see so you dont spook them and just gently real in over their heads. keep the tail of the worm fluttering and that will almost always trigger a strike. if that doesnt do it, try a rubber lizzard texas rigged on the bottom. good luck! wish my girl would go fishin with me sometimes.
  15. Use rubber worms. They are the most productive.
  16. bass like minnows (live bait) and use a lil bigger hook. also use a wieght on the line which helps the bait sink faster before the brim get a chance to get it... good luck and good fishing..bigest i've caught is 4lbs, hubby caught a 9.25 lb. bass. i keep trying to out fish him.. makes for great memories..;)
  17. Sounds like the bass are up on the beds, males 1st, & then the females. Gee, wish I were @ your location, I'm just dying for some warm weather and some of that springtime action. It snowed again yesterday, here @ the southern tip of Lake Michigan, and it doesn't look good for the next few weeks either. A sure fire winner for staging bass on the beds is a combination of the right lure, the right presentation, @ the right time of day. For me, I use a 10" to 3' leader attached to small barrel swivel, at the fishing end, it is tied off to a 5/0 Mister Twister "Keeper" hook, (the straight barb goes into the nose, and you just swing the hook up into place, w/ the barb of the hook just beneath the surface) with a 10" Berkeley "Original" Power worm, (and I like the colors Black, Black/ Blue Fleck, and Grape) This rig has nailed hundreds (literally caught 53 in one day) of bucket-mouth bass, and I have used it from spring, right on thru to late September, and have caught bass on it from 8" to 21&3/4", which is a decent sized bass for northern Indiana. For some strange reason they don't like the 10" worm, in fact they hate it, which is why they strike it so hard. Goodluck & Good fishing
  18. I agree if you want a big bass you have to use big bait you may not get as many bites but when you do you know it is gonna be a good one. I have seen bass in a lake so try movin around the lake shore slowly so they dont see you and spook. then pitch your bait near him and give it some action. good luck
  19. I agree with the guy that said to use the Bream as bait. You could also use large Golden Shiners under a bobber. If you want to check out the options for artificials try reading about bass fishing at www.bassresource.com Good luck...
  20. bass are smarter than you think so dont throw the bait in the water right on top of where u see them. spot fishing can be frustrating because they wont bite at it right away. Use minnows/shiners on the right size hook or a jig head.
  21. bass dont eat bread, but they will eat live worms sometimes...if your fishing with live bait, try minnows or catch some smaller bream. Bass usually go for artificial lures. try a spinnerbait, crankbait, or a topwater lure-these are guaranteed to catch bass
