Fishing Q&A

Fishing tips, what lure to use, what color of lure?

I'm going on a fishing trip with my friends to a private lake and cabin in Peoria. We have a tournament every year and I need some advice for this year so I can be in the running to win it. Its an abandoned strip mine that is now a bunch of lakes and for the most part we catch bass, blue gill, a few crappie, and some cat. Which lures should I use for each fish, what colors, and should I use big hooks or small hooks? Should I fish the shore, or in the depths. The waters usually murky, if that matters. Help me please. I NEED TO WIN!!!!

  1. green
  2. spinnerbait, crankbait, worm. depends on the weather, color can be black, green, red, to white. again depends on the weather to decide where to cast your bait. go to bass pro shop, and enter the keyword like crankbait or spinnerbait on the block and look for tips, i found that very useful! good luck to you.
  3. get spinners and get rubber worms and they should be the same color as the water
  4. Bass-small 1/8oz spinnerbaits, scented plastic worms (4-8 inches) preferably black due to the water color, rapalas (ranging from 2-6inches perch color will work nicely) Sunnies/Bluegills - anything really small plastic worms, small rapalas, jigs, spinners stuff like that they will all work Catfish - Stinkbait its really difficult to catch a catfish with a lure because they rely more on their scent than anything...and they aren't aggresively feeding fish too...worms work well, shiners, cut up fish.... Crappie (love these fish) - they usually hit small rapalas (2 inch rapala will catch you a 2lb crappie if they are in the area) they also will take spinners, plastic worms, and small spinnerbaits (they have small mouths and are just like big sunnies) hope I could help and have an amazing time fishing!
