What size hook and swivel should we use to fish for either bream or bass in my freind's lake?
We fish with minnows off her dock for fun and have caught both. Is it too late now, for bass? (Central Florida). We need to stock up on hooks and swivels - which is the best size for catching either one? We also catch and release so is there a hook that's good for that but doesn't also make us lose them before we land them? Sorry for so many questions, thanks for answering any!

- Well i have found that a 2/0 is best for bass and a number 2 for bream.Get hooks with small barbs on them this will help.
- yes could use a barbless hook #5 or 6 it depend on what type bait you are using you would need a regular barb hook for minnows for them to stay on when you cast
- The bass get pretty big in Florida. I would go with say a 1 or 2 ought hook for bass and I would probably go with say a 1/16 oz or even a 1/32 oz small jig for bream or specks.(blugill or crappie) these sizes will get you through the season. I have fished for bass in florida and have used up to say 4-5 ought hook for shiner fishing. (with a weed guard) and used golden shiners up to 12" long to catch them. My biggest so far is 8.5 lbs caught in Okeechobee.
- First off loose the swivels and learn to tie some fishing knots, it can save you money. It's never to late to fish for Bass in Florida you just have to change your presentation and the speed your fishing. Everyone has his or her favorite size hooks, but generally speaking hook size should be determined by the type of fishing one is doing and by the bait being used. In my case, I use a 7 1/2" worm, Texas Rig and use a 4.0 deep throat worm hook. They make special hooks for all you have described just check at Walmart you'll find them there. If you are practicing catch and release ( I think everyone should do that ) a non barbed hook is best.
- for brim you need a small hook and for bass about your biggest hook depend how big the basss you won't
