Fishing Q&A

pocket fisherman?

Anyone ever use the "as seen on tv" pocket fisherman? I am going to Florida next December and think this would be a cheap suitcase sized rod for my suitcase. All I want it for is fishing the ponds on the golf coarses where we are staying, I see golfers catching little bass out of these ponds all the time. I fish with St. Croix rods, but this gadget is only 10" long. Tell what you think. On there website you can get 2 for the price of one for a mere $29.

  1. I've never used one, but they've been selling those things for nearly thirty years. It's Ronco's highest volume seller as well. I've heard good things about them as a casual fishing rod, which it sounds like that's exactly what you want.
  2. I didnt even know they still sold them!
  3. If you do a fair amount of traveling, consider investing in a decent travel rod. The pocket fisherman is what it is, a closed face spinning reel in a small, collapsible rod. For a few dollars more, you can get a 4-piece travel rod at Cabela's. 4 - 18" sections means it's a little longer than the pocket fisherman, but probably takes up about the same packing space when you include a small spinning reel. If it's a one-shot deal where you're not going to need or use the product much afterwards, go with the PF. Link to the Cabela's travel rod (made by Eagle Claw) below.
  4. i used it, I have it....it sucks. It tangles, it sticks on it's own opening, and it casts like a joke. However if you hook a dumb perch it's kind of fun. couse you have to run to set the hook and keep running to land your fish.
  5. they might last for a little while had one when they first came out and caught alot of fish with them now have you checked out telescoping rod and real combos they are about the same size and are a little more dependable
  6. always rember where there are small fish there is bound to be some big ones bass in golf course ponds tend to be larger then anywhere else and in flroidia that could mean some real big fish
