  1. There are no cellular towers on the water, ergo, no reception. I used to go fishing all the time and even only an hour out on the ocean we would lose signals. It is normal, don't worry.
  2. haha yes, and then it fell overboard
  3. um well ther are no cell towers in the ocean
  4. yeah its a right pain that is, I mean just the other day I was at the bottom of the ocean and I thought I'd ring my mum but can you believe it, no reception! I can't believe the phone people don't put masts up down there I mean what are we paying them for exactly? hmm?
  5. why would you take your selfphone deep sea fishing
  6. You will lose signal when traveling out to sea. There are no cell towers to repeat the signal. There are a few towers out in the Gulf of Mexico. Check out http://www.celltowerinfo.com/picts/Cell%20Tower%20Location%20Map-%20Texas.jpg for a map of Texas. Most ships use satelite phones to get ship to shore reception. You usually can get recption on your cell phone when within a few miles of shore in a very populated area. Cell towers are like umbrellas, phone compnaies will locate towers so the umbrellas sort of overlap.
  7. You can still recieve signal if you have Int'l calling on your phone... I had to call my provider and add it when I went on a cruise.. Once you get away from shore and lose whatever tower you were using.. Your phone will say cellular at sea. And start using those sat.'s in outerspace to send your call. It works, I have used it.. And we were far out to sea, a few hundred miles. There is a little delay.. but again if you do not add it you can not use it.. So they told me. And you have to have a newer phone.
  8. Deep sea fishing is not "fishing deep under the sea" it is going past the continental shelf to troll over waters that are 1000 feet deep or more. For example the fishermen that fish of New Jersey have to go 80 to 100 nautical miles out. Now, about that cellular: After reaching a certain distance you lose the cellular signal. I still take my cell with me everyday. Because if you are in range it can help save your life, as it happened to one of my colleague and friend, when his boat sank.
  9. I lose my signal EVERY time I go fishing, and I don't even live near the ocean!
