  1. Back in 1976 we were salmon fishing off Puget Sound, my dad caught an octopus and my grandfather almost jumped over. LOL, thanks for allowing me to bring that memory back! I can still see the horror in grandpa's face...OMG! The rest of us were in awe, wow, it was so cool!
  2. Wow my worst time was when a great white lifted my cage up out of the water just as I was getting into it, when the tension went back on the cable it snapped and me and the cage started freefalling into the freaking abyss!!! the dammd cage flipped over so that the door was at the bottom and I was forced up into the top of the cage!!! Geeze it was the freakiest thing you wouldnt believe how fast it sank, it took me ages to claw my way down to the door and by that time I was in almost complete darkness, when I finally got out I couldnt tell which way was up and the pressure of the water made my ears feel like they were in a vice!!! In fact my whole body was in a vice and it was soooo dammd scarey....I almost felt like giving up because the boat hull looked so far away in the murkyness, I thought at the time it wouldnt be such a bad thing to go out this way, but I just kept kicking my way upwards, being careful not to rise faster than the bubbles I made it back ok, but sure as hell that was the damndest thing Ive ever experienced on the sea.
  3. back in in 1998 iwas deeep sea fishing in california when i sudenlly cught a shark and pulled over boardpulling about hundred yards before the line snpped
  4. Fishing for wahoo on a 10-day trip on the Royal Star (90 foot long-range boat) years ago. We'd just had a good stop and the crew had the hatch to the refrigerated fish hold open and was loading in the fish from the fish box as we started up trolling again. Just then we had another hookup on the troll, so the boat stopped again. I cast out my jig off the stern, and halfway in a fish clamped on. It took off to my left and ran up towards the bow ripping the 40# line out of my reel, so I had to follow it past the guys who were fishing on that side of the boat, holding my rod high to keep my line over theirs. So just at that instant, one of the guys abruptly stepped back from the rail and I caromed off him and ended up knee-deep in the fish hold (I was lucky it was nearly full). I fell on my face on the deck, but managed to back off my drag a bit so the fish didn't bust off. The crew got me out and to my feet, and I headed to the bow, winding hard -- but when I got there and got the line tight, it was going back under the boat, and stuck on something. I pulled, and couldn't gain an inch. I figured it was wrapped on the rudder. After a while, I gave up and broke it off. As I got back towards the stern, the boat's skipper was back there, holding a line he'd seen under the boat and retrieved with a gaff. "Anyone bust off a fish on the bow?" he was asking. I told him I had, so he spliced the line on another outfit and handed it to me. A few minutes later, I got my wahoo. It was mine-- it was my jig in its mouth.
  5. Once I was fishing for marlin and I caught a cold!!!
  6. Once I went out to sea to try and catch a shark because my daughter had an idea to make sharks teeth necklaces for her jewellery craft sales, anyhoo...Im throwing this chum over board and I see this other boat anchoring not far from us. They had a shark cage and this guy was sitting on top of the cage ready to get in and bugger me if something didnt push the whole shark cage up at least 6 feet!!!... when the cage fell down again the friggin cable snapped, the cage with the guy inside disappeared under water, I couldnt believe what was happening. all the guys on the other boat started running around shouting , and panicking like crazy!! , but with all that chum in the water there was no way I was gonna jump in to save him. So we carried on fishing and bugga me days if I caught a 30 foot great white shark...it thrashed around for a good 3 days, even towed our 10 ton boat halfway to freakin China, but somewhere off the coast of Australia, it gave up the struggle and we hauled it onboard....gee she was a big mutha alright!! had 3 rows of 100 teeth in each row, so anyways I never did find out what happened to that guy in the shark cage, we sailed back to where it had all happened but there was no sign of their boat and it was getting late I didnt want to catch a cold, so we headed back to shore to have a hot cocoa and a lie down. Oh yeah....my daughter made 300 necklaces that weekend and she sold em for $50 each!!!! She used some of the money to buy me this new 19" screen for my computer!!
