Fishing Q&A

All rounder fishing reel?

Can anyone recommend a good quality reel that will do for general use fishing? Mostly used on holidays fishing off a pier or off the rocks, but sometimes off a river bank. Also I dont realy want to spend a fortune on it. Could I get something for around £30. The rod I have is a telescopic rod.

  1. I am a sea angler for beach and pier and I have found that the best reel i ever used is called a sea streak and is one to be proud of. It should not cost more than £30 but I should check about the price in any tackle shop. This reel has a red plastic frame with chromed metal parts and has ball bearings. It has an air brake to prevent back lash also it has a fairly long winding handle. It has got a star drag adjuster for free line drifting and suitable for light line fishing. It has a large ratchet click and a small ratchet click and has a lock for free line release. If you decide to buy this reel I wish you the best os luck and happy fishing.
  2. I am the other way I course fish and very occasionally sea fish. I have found my OKUMA interceptor pro (basically a carp bait runner reel) does the job, it was £29.99 from Mullarkeys Direct. (.co.uk) and came with a spare spool. I use it with a 12 foot 2.75lb test curve carp rod which has the strength to withstand the extra weight used for casting. I think in general sea gear does not work that well for course fishing as it is too beefy. Best of Luck

  5. Go with the Okuma for the money!
  6. A medium sized carp reel with spare spool. Fit one with 12 - 15lb line for sea fishing and the other spool with 6 - 8lb for coarse fishing. it will be too heavy a set up for fishing for roach and small species but ideal for medium carp, pike, barbel or big perch, tench, eels and chubb.
