In fishing, Is it best to use live worm bait OR rubber lures?

I am going fishing for the first time in a pond out in Houston, Texas... Should I use live worms as bait OR are rubber lures just as good? I don't know what sort of fish they have at the pond. I do know it is a park with a pond (out in Katy--west houston)... But, in general-- in your opinion-- are rubber lures as effective?

1. I have never fished in Houston (though i have been there several times), but I live in Fort Worth and I only use live bait. Seems to work best. :-)
2. Use night crawlers and redworms. (real worms) i may only be 17 but i have been fishin for 11 years and i can tell ya that lures aren't gonna catch nething they are just a flash waste of money
3. Plastic worms are more effective for larger bass than natural ones. There are several brands which I like my 2 favorite are Culprit 7.5 inch worms and 6 inch Senko worms. I like a purple color or a natural color like greenish to brown. I prefer to Texas rig mine as well this keeps them weedfree and be sure to use a sharp hook like an Owner or Gamakatsu I like a 4/0 size. And I also like a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce bullet sinker for weight
4. Brandon may be correct that rubber worms are more effective for larger bass. However, if this is your first time fishing, I believe you should go with live bait. You will have more action, and should catch something. Starting out, you don't need to go for the biggest, you just need to have fun so you want to do it again. Artificial bait takes more skill. Trust me on this one, go with live worms. Good luck fishing! :-) Let me know how you do.
5. I always use live bait, either worms or minnows. I enter a bass tournament that I win almost every year (the biggest Bass). I use minnows and sometimes worms. All the other people get mad at me for using minnows. They hide there worms and make everyone think they are using spinners. I let everyone know that I am out to catch fish and the biggest and will do what ever is to my advantage. They have their choice to use what ever also. When hunting and fishing I will take what ever advantage the Score. All is fair in love and war and fishing and hunting.
6. Well that depends on really how your going to use the worms/lures because if you use live worms you could sit around all day until you get a bite. But on lure worms thier manily for jigging and stuff like that but I guess you could sit around like that too.
7. live bait. Fish have an excellent sense of smell and can tell the difference between a piece of rubber and actual food.
