Fishing Q&A

gentleman with no use of the left side has stopped him enjoying his passion for making flies for fly fishing?

he is having problems finding anybody who have the same problem and would like to know if their is anywhere for disabled people to continue on doing this hobbie he has done for many years. he lives in the north east area. he would be very grateful if anybody could help him.

  1. has he had a stroke? maybe he could phone the stroke association for advice
  2. oh my, a fly fisherman such as myself can appreciate a fly maker....please help him all you are able....try going to a local(for him) fly/fishing/sporting goods store to outlet his flies, perhaps get some younger person involved....a great Eagle Scout project/community service- check with local Boy Scout troops on that....that would be a great connection... thanks.
  3. Assuming he is right handed, that would be his "bobbin hand" which is most important in fly tying. If someone were willing to help him by placing the hook in the vice, holding his tools (scissors, pick, whip finisher) while he is tying and to prepare materials for him, he should be well able to continue. Perhaps a friend/neighbor/relative could help him.
  4. Having a handicap, stopping me or restricing my ability to do something I loved would end it for me.I would cherrish my memories and move on. but there are lots of incredible people in this world that the struggle is everything./Ken
  5. That's a shame, fly tying is a great hobby, especially when you cant get out to actually catching and there's nothing more of a great feeling than catching a fish on something you have designed and or made. Surely there is someone who could help him after all most of the fly tying is done with the right hand(if your righthanded) so all i can advise is this website http://www.virtualflybox.com/ Try the participate section.
  6. Go to your local hospital and talk to a occupational therapist, they might have some resources for you.found a disabled fishing group they may help here is the link. http://www.fhnbinc.org/about.htm I hope they can help you, stay determined and keep trying.
