- Baby snakes
- Back when I used to do freshwater fishing, all I would use was a good assortment of crappie jigs. Drop it to the bottom, reel it up just a bit and hold the rod in my hand. No need to jig if you just hold it in your hand, your hand moves just a bit while holding the rod and it gives the jig just the right action for crappie.
- Blue and white tube jig with a small piece of worm if that don't work nothing will.
- wat crappie fishing?
- The best bait that i have ever used, was LIVE minnows. Jigs work good too, but my best luck is with the minnows. in fact, i went this afternoon, my son & i, caught 43 keepers ( smaller than 10", i throw back ).
- As mentioned, small minnows, small plastic crappie jigs...and they love small roostertails too. I enjoyed crappie fishing years ago, but have since moved onto largemouth and smallmouth bass in tourneys, but sometimes you just never know what hit your lure, until you get it to the boat. :D
- Live minnows or bright green or yellow crappie jigs are my favorites
- Minnows around sunken pine trees is my favorite bait and locations. During spring spawn they will bite an a variety of baits. I missed tying our state record one year within 2 oz. using a green jig head and a bee moth. Got to keep the fish alive in a tank at Big Blue in Seymour, IN. for the rest of the year, was very rewarding!
- My favorite crappie bait is the worm, the old fashion way. For the modern way I use a lite weight rod, 5'6", with a small reel loaded with 4 pound line. The bait is a crappie jig. I carry assorted colors though I like lime green, pink and yellow the most. To add to the fun you might like to make a worm bed (free bait).
- Earthworms, redworms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Minows and some jigs might work too
- A 1 1/2 in Glow Pearl Tube Jig tipped with a Powerbait Crappie nibble. Jig it when they are active, hold vertically or float under bobber for those slow days. The biggest problem with these is you catch so many BIG bluegill and yellow perch and your jig gets shreded. Buy bulk 100 packs from Cabelas or Bass Pro. Use 1/16 or 1/32 oz tube insider heads and slide them into the tube. Fish near downed timber, weed edges and under docks, if they want it really slow try dropping a black Wolly Bugger under the dock until you can't see it anymore. Then pull it back up and try again. I have caught at least 1000 1lb plus crappies in a two month time.
