- There isn't really a "best" bait out there to use. There are crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, top lures, grubs, plastic worms, etc... All of these baits/lures work well under certain conditons. If the water is cold and the bass are less active, then you would want to use a bait that can be presented in a slower fashion, like a "texas rig" setup maybe. All in all the best way to catch bass is to try different techniques, along with different baits/lures until you find what works. If the crankbait is unsuccessful, try a spinnerbait, if that's no good try a top lure. Once you find the lure/bait that gets the bass attention at the lake your fishing, note the conditions for future reference. Such as bait/lure uses, temperature that day, time of year, etc.. I wont call it the best bait/lure, but one of my most successful lures is the "texas rig" setup.
- There really is no 1 best lure, but plastic worms catch more fish each year than any other bait. I would suggest Gary Yamamoto worms because they are loaded with salt to get the fish to hold on a little bit longer, giving you more time to set the hook. Only buy plastics that are salt impregnated, because if the salt is just on the outside of the worm, it will wash off on the first cast. Once you get confident with the worm, try other soft plastics. Like lizards, creatures, crayfish, etc... Any soft plastics you can find. Some popular colors are blue, black, purple, red, and brown. I prefer watermelon only because the fish where I fish go after that color the most. Good luck.
- worms
- I agree with the people who say there is not really a best. It depends, therefore you need to find what works best for where ever you fish. I will say after what I thought was refining which baits work best my son (young) started fishing with me and choose his baits by looks. I don't think it made much difference most of the time. If they are hungry you will catch fish-within reason. Really just enjoy being out on the water.
- worm or nightcralers {what's the differnce?]
- Jitterbug lure
- The all time #1 Bass Catching lure is the rubber worm. It has caught more bass in tournament fishing than any other lure and is responsible for more lunkers than any other lure. You can fish a 4" for smallies, a 7" for normal largemouth....a 10 inch and even a 20 inch. They come in all colors. They work in just about all water in all conditions....anybody who says any different has zero idea what they are talking about!!
- If I had to pick one and only one lure to catch bass, I would go with a spinnerbait. You can cast as far as you need to and you cover a lot of water with every cast, so you're bound to find them. My favorite brand of spinnerbait has always been H&H. They are smaller than a regular Strike King spinnerbait. It's a pretty small bait company, so you can't find them everywhere. When you do, you should pick up a few of them. My favorite colors are red/white, black/white, chartrous/black and black.
- Spinnerbaits! They cover lots of water, work well in open water AND in cover, & trigger defensive strikes, even when the fish aren't feeding!
- different baits for different situations
- Megabass 110
- The best bait is more than likely a rubber worm it has caught more bass than any other lure out their. I would choose a jig as the second best lure. On a windy day I would say throw a spinner bait or rattle trap. Alot of people don't like it but the 5" senko is a hard bait to beat on hot calm days they will usually work extremely well just put a hook through the middle of the worm, cast it out let it sit for a little while and watch the line go. A jig is a verry productive lure also you may not get as many bites but the bites you get are usually a qualitly fish. Good luck
