Fishing Q&A

Question on bass fishing?

Can bass be caught on all beaches? I have never fished for bass before. But i'm thinking of targeting them with a fly rod. A beach close to me has 3 miles of strand. Can anyone tell me if it would be worth giving it a go? I don't think I can ever re-call anyone ever fishing from this beach. I have seen a lot of flounder around this beach.

  1. not really onless there's lots of weeds on shore where they can hide www.lakelink.com
  2. well depending on where you live i assume your talking about salt water. large and small mouth bass live in fresh water. now the stripped sea bass also known as a striper lives in salt water but i am not sure on if they roam the beaches. i believe there more of an open water fish. flyrodding the surf may be a waste of time. i would check with local tackle shops and find out how to fish the area waters.
  3. I agree with Mark E, are you referring to stripe bass? He is right if you are not sure check with your local fishing stores they are a good source of information.
  4. Your aren't being specific if you mean lake beaches or ocean beaches but considering you mentioned flounder, I think you mean ocean beaches. In that case, I think ocean bass are WAY to far out to reach them with a fly from shore. Now, I really don't know much about sea bass at all, but I do know that they are open water fish. They travel deep open waters looking for baitfish just like Stripers at your lake do. You wouldn't be able to reach sea bass from the surf on shore. But, if you ever feel like catchin a freshwater largemouth bass on a fly from lakeshore, then you definitely could do this. Use a small popper topwater, or a nymph like others before me have said. If you rent a boat it would make things alot easier to drop a worm or craw into deep structure for the Winter Time. Good luck with whatever fish your after. www.fishingnetwork.net This site has information on freshwater AND Saltwater fishing. Its a Californian site, but it should still have alot of useful information.

  6. flounder are found in salt water. Unless you are speaking of striper there are no bass in there. Striper can be caught close to shore but you will need to find bait fish and watch for the striper to go inti a feeding frenzy and put your fly in the middle of them.
  7. It would not be worth your time.
  8. i have never heard anyone catching a bass on a beach, but if you do catch one dont raise your rod up high cause if the bass jumped you'll lose it
