Fishing Q&A

Can anyone please refer me to a site that would describe the 'bat wings' that are used to stabilize fish boats

  1. www.overtons.com/hydrofoil < - - - try that
  2. Are you referring to the wing-shaped boards you see fixed at the stern of small (less than 20ft) fishing boats? You see them on almost every small fishing boat here in Greece. They're there to stop the stern digging into the sea when under full power. If it did that the sea would swamp the vessel. These days the engine they fit is really too powerful for the size of boat. All boats dig in their stern under power, most of these fishing boats would dig themselves right underwater without these "wings"
  3. It could also be the "birds" that are at the end of the line for flopper stopper style stabilizers. http://www.cmst.curtin.edu.au/news/fsc/index.html
  4. They are simply air filled pods that when fastened to the side of the boat they spred the weight out over a larger area and stabilize the boat. These also increase the load that the boat can carry. I hope this will answer your question??
