Fishing Q&A

Does anyone know where we could go out of a small boat for fishing in the Chicago area in the middle of May?

My husband loves to fish, and I would want someone to drive his boat, and take us out fishing for a day. Do you know anywhere we could go for this in the Chicago/Grayslake area or surrounding area? We´re willing to travel up to Wisconsin too!

  1. Once you decide a lake you want to fish on. Then look up the lake on Internet and look for guide fishing. Then you will have several companies/business that will provide assistance.
  2. Great fishing opportunities abound within an hours drive of the loop, & even more so if you're willing to travel, say 3hrs by car. I live in East Chicago, In. at the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan. and there are all kinds of charter boats out of the various harbors that dot Lake Michigan's shoreline. But if you & your husband are the adventurous type, there are multiple opportunities off of the "Chain" located on the Fox river, which is right up in your neck of the woods, which by the way has some world class fishing, almost right in your back yard. For me, I tend to travel south, towards Heidecke, LaSalle, Braidwood, (which are State run facilities) & along the Illinois River, including the Vermillion River, but I also do a fair amount of fishing over here in Indiana, along the Kankakee, (State line & Area #3), Tippecanoe river, down by Monticello, below the dams @ Norway, (Lake Schaffer) & Oaktown, (Lake Freeman). I would contact the Il. DNR, and request maps for Cook County, Lake county, McHenry county, and Dekalb county, as well as a State map, in addition to a booklet put out by the state that tells you where to go for fishing, camping, hiking etc. And in addition to that, check out the Chicago Sun Times, for their fishing reports. (I can't remember if it comes out on wed., or thurs.) Goodluck & Good fishing
