Boating on ocean is different than the lake.I see many pontoons but are they seaworthy?I had a 24' on the lake
On bay water they seem to do fine but what about open water? In a 3' sea the bigger v hulls struggle so how do pontoons do?I've had alake house for years and we have a 24' pontoon,19' ski boat, small fishing boat, and a trhree seater Bombadier. The larger v hulls are all I see in the open ocean like going out for a fihing trip.Any experienced seagoers out there?

- The deep v hulls are definitely better when venturing out to sea. Flat bottoms, tri-hulls, or pontoons tend to slap you around all day, especially if you anchor. Please be advised though, if this is your first trip into the ocean, make sure that you have a radio, tuned to the local weather station, a 2-way radio in order to communicate with others or for an emergency, flares, and any other safety equipment you could think of. In the open water, if a storm should move in, the waves can grow large quickly, and the water can become very hard to navigate. I really suggest that you contact the local "Coast Guard" as to what your plans are, and where you plan to go. They will guide you in the right direction as to all of your needs and precautions..... Have fun, be safe, be aware at all times......
- Pontoons are not safe on the ocean. There's not enough upforce on the bow to get one over a sizeable wave. On the upside, the deck prolly clears great but really not a good idea.
- Oh hell no....There are these things called swells that you don't get on a lake....stay on the porch if you can't run with the big dogs.
