Am I allowed to bring a inflatable boat and a 4 hp motor on a plane when I travel to Brazil?
I haven't baught the boat or the motor yet but I am very interested to bring one with me to fish near the amazon river? What would be the best boat to buy and how would i go about bringing one on a plane? thank you.

- the boat shouldn't be aproblem if it folds up small enough for the specific airline max size. the motor could be a problem because since the clamp down on security any residual fumes from gas or oil left in the motor will raise a red flag....I knew a guy who had a camping stove with him that he was trying to check and they would'nt let him even through it was just the empty stove and gas cylinder was not with him, they said that hey could still smell the fuel.

- Checked baggage has size and weight limitations, so you must check with your airline to obtain these dimensions first and then search for an inflatable that would fit within the restrictions. Typically 50 LBS is the maximum weight without an excess weight charge. Also it's very difficult to check a motor, and the last time I attempted to do so I was denied, missed the flight, and had to ship the motor, as they wouldn't even let it go as cargo. Folding oars and a dinghy that was easy to row might work, but the motor is going to be a big problem. Also be sure to check the seasonal baggage embargo in effect for flights to Central and South America.
