Is Will Smith an idiot?

In "I Am Legend" why didnt he just get a big boat with solar panels, a water purifier and a fishing rod and live 10 miles offshore. when he needed stuff he just docks during the day or uses his lab and then returns to the sea instead of living in fear for so long. He still could do everything that he did just he'd be safe. What is wrong with this logic????????? people if i said is will smiths character is an idiot nobody would answer The other thing is how come i haven't seen anything about this virus on the news. im starting to thnk its not real. i saw people in NY just the other day. No lions. and how did the lions get out of the zoo. is the movie implying that the zoo is unsafe.
