Fishing Q&A

Floating line troubles?

The Fly Fishing kit I got has two eyes with a 1" spike attached to them. I belive I am suppposed to push them in to each end of the floating line. I can only get them 1/4" on. Are there any knots used to tie the two lines together with out the eyes?

  1. the best suggestion i can give you is go out and buy a package of eagle claw level line they are plastic taperd at both ends with a hole in the middle you tie a knot in both ends of the floating line and your leader and slip the knot in the hole and pull repeat for leader much easier and more secure but i don't know what you have there I'm from Ontario good luck
  2. Are you refering to your backing? If so get rid of those hooks!! There are multiple knots that you can use. Here are some websites to get you on your way. The first one is the best to get you going. http://www.flymartonline.com/article215.html http://www.steelheader.net/knots/knots.htm http://www.killroys.com/knots/knots.htm
  3. Don`t use those hooks, they only ruin your expensive fly line. Go out and buy some tapered 9 foot tippets. Some manufactures put knot tying instructions on the packaging. It takes a little practice to tie a good knot but once you learn how you will be just fine. Use the same knot that is suggested for tying the tippet to the fly line for tying your backing line to your fly line.
